We spent 10 (sick) days in Pemberton and made a few daytours in the area. Poor Tobias! Since he was injured he became a passanger against his will.
During a walk by the forest in the proximity of Whistler a black bear, less than 2m far away from us, suddenly emerged from the bushes. The bear was probably just as surprised as we and after we had stared at each other for a few seconds, it disappeared.
Pamberton lies in the hottest valley of Canada and with a temperature of 42 degrees Celcius we couldn't do much but to take a swim in one of the nearby lakes. Several times we met both grizzly and black bears, but they never caused us any problems! We've heard about the poor bear walking around in Austria and Germany and we were very sad and disappointed to hear that he got killed. Why???
We enjoyed the days at Ken and Shirley who invited us for dinner several times, let us use the phone and internet, shower, do laundry and also helped us a lot with things that had to be done because of the accident.
We left Pemberton in the morning 24 of July and drove to Vancouver and then we took a ferry to Vancouver Island. In Ucluelet at the west coast of Vancouver Iceland, we camped at the Mussel Bay. There we experienced high and low tide. When we arrived in the evening the water was only a few meters from our tent and in the morning it was 200 meters away. We found a lot of mussels, crabs, seastars and other small animals.
In company of our tent neighbours (also from Austria), we enjoyed a beer in front of the camp fire and then fell asleep to the sound of the sea.
In Alberni we took a walk through a 800 year old forrest. Very impressive to walk around among the vary large trees. At a parking lt we met a swedish couple who like us, was discovering America by motorcycle.
We had leave earlier than planned and get to Seattle. our bikes really needed service and the damage on Tobias bike had to be repaired. After walking around in Victoria a few hours and the custom had taken our fingerprints and our photos, we took the ferry over to Port Angeles and USA.
We stood on deck for along time and saw the beautiful Canada with all the nice people we've met slowly disappear...
